Many parents are familiar with cotillion, a long-standing tradition designed to teach children social etiquette, confidence, and gracious behavior. At Manners & Moves, we build upon those same timeless principles while creating a modern, engaging experience that helps children develop the social and leadership skills needed in today's world.

Through etiquette instruction, teamwork activities, Manners Jeopardy, and social dance, children gain confidence, practice meaningful interactions, and learn how to connect with others in a fun and supportive environment.

More Than Etiquette

While etiquette remains an important foundation, Manners & Moves is about much more than knowing which fork to use or how to set a table. It is about helping children develop confidence, character, communication skills, and meaningful relationships.

By combining the traditional values of cotillion with modern activities, Manners & Moves creates an engaging experience in which children learn to work together, communicate effectively, build self-confidence, and form lasting friendships.

The result is a program that helps children develop the social skills they need to succeed—not only at a special event or dinner table, but throughout their lives.

Why Teamwork Matters

Teamwork is one of the most valuable skills a child can develop. Whether in the classroom, on a sports team, or in the workplace years from now, success often depends on the ability to work effectively with others.

Children who practice teamwork learn to:

  • Listen respectfully

  • Communicate clearly

  • Move toward a common goal

  • Show empathy and understanding

  • Resolve disagreements respectfully

  • Support and encourage others

These experiences help children become better friends, stronger leaders, and more confident participants in group settings.

Building Social Confidence

Confidence grows through practice. When children are given opportunities to interact with peers, introduce themselves, participate in conversations, and engage in new experiences, they become more comfortable navigating social situations.

At Manners & Moves, children practice:

  • Introducing themselves confidently

  • Making eye contact

  • Starting and maintaining conversations

  • Listening actively

  • Showing respect and courtesy

  • Including others in activities and discussions

These skills help children feel more comfortable in social settings and prepare them for future academic, professional, and personal success.

How Manners Jeopardy Supports Teamwork and Confidence

One of the most popular activities in our program is Manners Jeopardy. This interactive game transforms etiquette lessons into a fun team challenge.

Children work together to answer questions about:

  • Table manners

  • Respect and kindness

  • Conversation skills

  • Social situations

  • Dining etiquette

  • Everyday courtesy

As they collaborate, participants learn how to communicate effectively, support teammates, and share ideas. The game encourages children to speak up, think critically, and contribute to their team's success.

Because the atmosphere is positive and encouraging, even quieter children often gain confidence to express themselves and participate in group discussions.

The Power of Dance

Social dance has long been a cherished part of the cotillion tradition because it teaches much more than steps and movement.

Through dance activities, children learn:

  • Confidence and poise

  • Respect for others

  • Personal awareness

  • Partner cooperation

  • Social interaction skills

  • Good sportsmanship

Dance also provides a natural way for children to interact with several classmates. By rotating partners and participating in group activities, they practice meeting new people and engaging comfortably with others.

Meeting New Friends

One of the greatest benefits of Manners & Moves is the opportunity for children to expand their social circles.

Throughout the program, participants:

  • Meet children from different schools and communities

  • Practice introductions and conversation skills

  • Work together on team challenges

  • Encourage and support one another

  • Develop new friendships

These experiences help children become more comfortable in unfamiliar situations and give them the confidence to connect with new people wherever they go.
